A tiny monkey wearing a winter coat and a diaper escaped from his cage in a parked car in the parking lot, and headed into the Toronto IKEA store Sunday.

The monkey was a rhesus macaque, and he was sporting a miniature shearling jacket and was wearing a diaper. The monkey was just 7 months old.

Canadian police said: ‘It’s a smart monkey.

Toronto animal services eventually caught the monkey inside the store.

Owning a rhesus macaque monkey is illegal in Toronto, and the owner faces a $240 fine for the offense.

The monkey still remains in the care of animal services, however, the monkey is said to be in good health and spirits.

The news of the monkey running through Ikea spread like wild fire. On Twitter, #Ikeamonkey trended and there are least two parody accounts. There is also an Ikea Monkey page on Facebook.
