Trey Songz Helps ‘Texas Chainsaw 3D’ Hit No. 1

Trey Songz slashed his way into a No. 1 movie as Texas Chainsaw 3D took the top spot at the box office this weekend.

The latest in the slasher film franchise took in $23 million in receipts and cut into the tickets of Django Unchained, which landed at No. 2. after it’s second week ($20 million). The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey ($17.5 million), which has been in theaters for several weeks, followed closely behind.

Though the film is a hit, Trey Songz recently said he wants to give himself time to grow into bigger roles.

“I think the beautiful aspect of my character is that he’s a very likable guy,” he told MySpace. “He’s not a character that has too many layers of depth where I had to really remove myself, because as an artist that’s making an album and being pulled away from that to go shoot a movie, a horror film at that, I still had a studio in my room.”

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Trey will be featured in the romantic comedy about a 35-year-old flight attendant driven to find a fiancé to take to her sister’s engagement party. Paula Patton is set for the starring role of Baggage Claim, which will also feature Adam Brody, Derek Luke, Montana Moore, Tay Diggs, Djimon Hounsou.
