Did everyone watch the season premiere of American Idol last night? Most people were excited to see the feud we have been hearing about for months between Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj but I was most excited about the auditions. The good, the bad and the ugly, we had a little bit of it all. We also had some very inspirational stories starting with 21 year old Evan Ruggiiero. He is a cancer survivor who lost his leg to the terrible disease. He came into the audition room singing the Jason Mraz song “I’m Yours” and then picked up his guitar and sang Bon Jovi “Wanted Dead Or Alive”. He killed it with the second song but the judges thought his voice wasn’t strong enough yet and advised him to come back next year.
About a half an hour later we saw a young man from Brooklyn, NY, Frankie Ford. He was adopted at the age of 2 by a woman he said is “his rock”. He is 24 years old and he dropped out of school and sings for money on the subway everyday. He sang “Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of These)” but struggled with nerves the first time around. The second time he relaxed and got through a verse of the song with no problems. His voice was good but the judges also said he was very charismatic and decided to send him through, telling him he was an inspiration to everyone.
Both of these guys had good voices in my opinion but nothing that blew my socks off. The real question is if we are sending people through based on inspiration, which one of these guys is more inspirational in your opinion?
