#PhelpsFace Happened Because of Future

By Amanda Wicks

Before Michael Phelps swam in the 200 meter butterfly qualifying round against rival Chad Le Clos and regained his spot as number one, the world became fascinated with the intense and angry face he made while sitting in the staging area at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

At the time, Phelps was listening to music on his headphones, but he only revealed what song made his #PhelpsFace so fierce during the 2016 MTV VMAs last night (August 28). Phelps appeared to introduce Future’s performance, and shared his fandom with viewers. “Remember in Rio when I made that face that ended up all over the internet? I was in the zone with Future’s track ‘Stick Talk’ blaring in my headphones,” he said to raucous cheers.

Before he opened up about “Stick Talk,” Phelps said about Future, “There’s no rapper today more inspiring than Future. His optimism is right there in his name.” The rapper went on to perform his single “F— Up Some Commas,” and after he was done he thanked Phelps on Twitter.
